This month has flown by. I don’t know where the time has gone. It’s been over three weeks since my last post and I apologize for that. I’ve been going crazy getting things ready for the shop in time for Black Friday and Small Business Saturday. This is still so new to me, so hopefully I will be better prepared for future holidays. It’s hard to believe that it has only been 3-1/2 months since we opened our booth at the Port City Co-op in Oswego, NY.
I love giving vintage items a new purpose, don’t you? A while back I came across these vintage rug beaters in an auction and loved their interesting shapes, but who beats rugs anymore? I know I don’t. I thought I would decorate some of them for the season.
The photo below are the two metal ones that I decorated for autumn.
Realistically, these two rug beaters sell for between $12-$15 each in my area (not decorated), but I have seen them priced as much as$25 a piece. When I decorated these, I tied ribbon around the handle and then hot glued the flowers to the ribbon so that the rug beater itself would not be damaged. The longer one sold immediately for $18. The smaller one is still for sale. I may take the autumn flowers off of that one and make it more spring/summer related.
The rug beater above is actually a green broom with a brown wooden handle. The color just screamed Christmas when I saw it, so that’s what I did. Again, the greenery is attached to a ribbon and the ribbon is wrapped around the handle of the rug beater.
Below are some items I used for this project along with affiliate links, for your convenience.
